Why Should We Used The Oversized Pistons?
Oversized pistons are used when the cylinder walls are worn, scratched, or out of round after engine operation. After the cylinders are rebored or honed to a larger diameter, oversized pistons are required to restore the correct piston-to-cylinder clearance and engine performance.
Why use oversized pistons?
-
Restore cylinder wall damage
- Over time, cylinder walls can become worn, scratched, or tapered.
- Reboring removes the damaged surface and creates a perfectly round cylinder again.
-
Maintain proper piston clearance
- After reboring, the original piston becomes too small.
- An oversized piston ensures the correct clearance between the piston and cylinder wall.
-
Recover engine compression
- Excessive wear can cause compression loss, oil consumption, and reduced power.
- Oversized pistons help restore compression and engine efficiency.
-
Extend engine service life
- Rebuilding the engine with oversized pistons is often more economical than replacing the engine block.
